In our previous posts we've entered text into a 'Username' text box field and the 'Password' password field using the Selenium RC command type. Now lets enter some text into the Text Area field using the same Selenium RC command type. To start with lets enter a single line text into the Text Area field using Selenium RC command type.
Difference between Text Box field and Text Area field:
Text Area is a larger version of the Text Box field where you can enter more than one lines of text. i.e. In Text Box field you can enter text in a single line where as in Text Area you can enter multiple lines of text as shown below:
Test Description:
Enter the text 'This is a single line text.' into the 'TextArea Comment' Text Area field using the Selenium RC command type as shown in the below screenshot:
After going through the test description its very clear that, we have to locate the Text Area field using CSS path and enter the text 'This is a single line text.' into the located Text Area field using type Selenium RC command.
Lets Implement the Test on Eclipse IDE:
Pre-requisites:
1. Create a new Project say 'RC-Project30' in Eclipse IDE
2. Configure the Project to work with Selenium RC
3. Configure the Selenium Standalone Server to run from Eclipse IDE
4. Create a package say 'package30' under the newly created project.
5. Create a Java Class file say 'Class30' under the newly created package as shown below:
Actual Steps:
1. Write the following code into the newly created Java Class file as shown below and make sure that you resolve all the errors before going to next step:
2. Write the test method 'enterSingleLineTextIntoTextAreaField()' which uses CSS Path Statements for locating the Text Area field as shown below:
3. Start the Selenium Standalone Server
4. Save and Run the 'Class30.java' file by selecting the 'JUnit Test' option and ensure that our Automation Test has entered the text 'This is a single line text.' into the Text Area field as shown in the below video:
